Manitoba Artists Head to Toronto for Canadian Music Week

Music from Manitoba is set to break new ground at Canadian Music Week (CMW) next month. One of Canada’s biggest music industry festivals, CMW takes over Toronto venues May 6-12. Eighteen homegrown acts are booked to play the festival, which offers the chance to perform for and connect with music fans, industry, and media from across Canada and the world.

The 37th CMW features hundreds showcasing bands at more than 30 live music venues in downtown Toronto. Manitoba’s lineup includes Bri, David James, Dizzy Mystics, Drinkbleachh, Encore, Ex Ømerta, Ghost Twin, HAVS, Indian City, JayWood, Kelly Fraser, Living Hour, Moon Tan, Olivia Lunny, Sebastian Gaskin, Silence Kit, Super Duty Tough Work, and The 1221.

In addition to the thwack of showcases, CMW is also home to a number of awards shows celebrating Canadian talent in the artistic, live music, and broadcast communities.

The fourth annual Live Music Industry Awards will hand out hardware to members of the Canadian music and live industries at a celebratory brunch on May 7. Winnipeg Folk Festival is up for hardware this year for the Community Impact Award.

The Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards, which honour pioneers and builders of the Canadian music industry, will be held on May 5. This year’s nominees include: Bell MTS Centre, Club Regent Casino, CKJS, Kiss 102.3, and 92.1 CITI.
