Are you interested in getting some behind-the-scenes experience in supporting the local music scene, communications, and building your skills in the business side of music? With the support of Canada Summer Jobs, we’re looking for two fun, organized, detail-oriented individuals who are passionate about local music to join our team for the summer. We’re hiring for two positions: 

1) Indigenous Music Communications & Admin Intern
2) Marketing Assistant  

Start date: August 3, 2020
End date: October 30, 2020
Hours: 21 hours per week, requires some flexible workdays
Wage: $12.50/hour

Work Environment & Requirements

Due to COVID-19, our office is currently closed and our team is working remotely. These positions are expected to work remotely, with the potential of in-office work and in-person meetings with advanced notice that follow strict public health guidelines.

To be selected, you will need to have access to a computer and internet capable of

  • Streaming
  • Teleconferencing (Zoom)
  • Cloud-based work
  • Word processing and spreadsheets

To be considered, an applicant must:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at start date (Monday August 3, 2020)
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*
  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

Indigenous Music Communications & Admin Intern

The Indigenous Music Communications & Admin Intern will help to research, create, and maintain content for websites the Indigenous Music digital presence and provide admin support. Your work will include:

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of content for indigenousmusic.ca including articles, video content, industry directories, and enhanced media
  • Compile information on releases, tours, and other activities by artists that identify as Indigenous
  • Assist in the maintenance of industry, festival, and media contact lists
  • Contribute to Indigenous Music’s social media and online presence
  • Assist with external communications strategy
  • Assistant with event logistics for virtual and in-person events
  • Assist in other administrative and clerical duties

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Identifies as Indigenous
  • Is interested in understanding how the music industry works
  • Is interested in exploring or pursuing a career in creative communications
  • Has strong written and spoken communication skills in English (French is an asset)
  • Likes connecting with a wide variety of people
  • Is comfortable phoning and connecting with new people
  • Is comfortable with social media
  • Is comfortable in a PC environment and proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Appreciates constructive feedback
  • This job will provide career-related work experience to students from fields including: Creative communications, journalism, creative writing, marketing, arts management, music business.
  • Experience with video editing, graphic design, and digital event production is an asset.

Marketing Assistant

The Marketing Assistant will work with the Manitoba Music team to help market and promote Manitoba Music’s initiatives as well as provide admin support. Your work will include:

  • Assist in the implementation of digital strategies for Manitoba Music and Indigenous Music
  • Assist in event- related activities, including logistics, promotion, and outreach for Manitoba Music and Indigenous Music
  • Assist in the maintenance of online live music resources, including content creation for manitobamusic.com and indigenousmusic.ca
  • Assist in the coordination of promotional activities
  • Assist in partnership and sponsorship deliverables and activities
  • Assist in the execution of communications and social media strategies
  • Assist in professional and industry development research
  • Assist in other administrative duties

We’re looking for someone who is/has:

  • Interest in marketing, digital communications and strategies, social media
  • Comfortable in a PC environment and proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Is self-directed and has great time-management skills
  • Knowledge of Indigenous music communities in Manitoba and Canada an asset
  • Experience with photography/videography, graphic design is an asset
  • Has great written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Is comfortable with social media, especially Instagram
  • Likes to organizing things
  • Likes meeting a wide variety of people
  • Appreciates constructive feedback
  • Has some experience with Photoshop and video editing (this is an asset, but isn’t required)
  • Interest in working within Manitoba’s arts and entertainment sector as a career goal is an asset
  • This job will provide career-related work experience to students from fields including: Event management, creative communications, arts management, music business, marketing
