Virtual Professional Development Sessions to Run March 3-6

Manitoba Music is launching Catalyst Music Conference, a new virtual conference focused on connection, creation, community, and professional development for the music industry in Manitoba.

Building on the foundation of the long-running January Music Meeting, Catalyst kicks off March 3, welcoming music industry pros and music creators from around the world. Programming includes specialized and interactive training and offers Manitoba's music community a rare opportunity to network with and learn from a cross section of tastemakers and experts while connecting with local peers.

Catalyst Music Conference will cover critical music topics in 2021 and concrete advice on how to succeed in the constantly-evolving music business, including skills-building presentations, strategic planning, listening sessions with industry pros, community-focused panels on building a more equitable music industry, workshops for emerging and established music producers, and more. Speakers and hosts sharing their expertise at Catalyst include over 35 artists and industry professionals from across Canada and the US. Many Manitoba-based experts will also participate to facilitate connection, creation, development, and community. Click here to read more about the speakers and hosts

Leading up to Catalyst, Manitoba Music will share a series of videos from this year’s speakers and hosts via Instagram Stories featuring their best pieces of advice, offering a glimpse into their experiences and insight into the inner-working of the industry. Catalyst features demo listening sessions, offering participants a rare opportunity to get their demo in front of music industry decision-makers and professional creators, including one session dedicated specifically to hip hop. Each session will feature a panel with reps working in radio, label A&R, publishing A&R, and professional production, who’ll offer live feedback. Designed to showcase how professionals are listening to music and what they consider before working with it, submissions for the opportunity are open until 10AM on March 1. “Bringing local creators and entrepreneurs together to build their career skills, professional relationships, and peer network is one of the most important and fulfilling things we do at Manitoba Music,” says Sean McManus, Manitoba Music’s executive director. “We’re excited to launch this project to the virtual space and find new ways to connect.”

Registration for Catalyst Music Conference is $30 for Manitoba Music members and $60 for non-members. Info about speakers, schedule, and registration is available at manitobamusic.com/catalyst

Catalyst Music Conference is made possible by the generous support of the Province of Manitoba through Industry Services of Manitoba Education and Training, FACTOR through the financial support of the Government of Canada and Canada's private radio broadcasters, and The SOCAN Foundation.
