Call for Participants: Manitoba Film & Music Grant Writing Incubator

Planning to apply for Manitoba Film & Music’s Music Recording Production Fund? Manitoba Music is launching another grant writing incubator program to help! This program is for beginner to intermediate artists and industry professionals in Manitoba who are in pre-production, or recording a demo, single, EP, or album for commercial release, and want to apply for MFM’s upcoming deadline on May 20, 2021.

Participants will be guided through the process of writing and applying for funding by experienced mentors with the intention of submitting a funding application to MFM. Running for two weeks in May, the program will cover business registration, application forms, budget, and marketing/project plans.

Participants must attend the MFM Info Session at 5PM on April 29 or watch the recorded session  to prepare to meet with a mentor. 

Important Dates:

Deadline to apply: Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 4PM CST
Confirmation of participation: Thursday, April 29 at 3PM CST
MFM Info Session: Thursday, April 29 at 5PM CST > RSVP on Facebook for a reminder
Mentor sessions: Saturdays, May 8 and 15 between 10AM-1PM CST; OR Mondays, May 10 and 17, between 5:30-8:30PM CST

To participate in the program, applicants must:

  • Be an active Manitoba Music member
  • Be available for the Saturday or Monday mentor sessions listed above under “important dates” (you must be available for both session dates)
  • Be eligible to apply for MFM programs (see applicant requirements here)
  • Be recording an upcoming single, EP, or album for commercial release OR recording demos not intended for release OR writing and doing pre-production for an upcoming project
  • Have a sense of a release timeline and rough project plan that is relevant to the deadline on May 20
  • Have assessment tracks recorded and ready by the program start date:
    • For a commercial single release: one quality, unreleased demo
    • For a commercial EP or album release: two quality, unreleased demos;
    • For pre-production: two past commercially released singles
    • For demo-recording: two rough demo recordings
  • Participate in the MFM Info Session on April 29
  • Complete the draft marketing plan guide
  • Fill out the incubator application/registration form
