Call for Submissions: Songsmiths Song Camp | Deadline: Nov 10

When it comes to songwriting and music production, having certain technical skills can be essential to successfully collaborate online. To support artists and producers build their toolkits, Manitoba Music is partnering with Songsmiths to launch a new hybrid opportunity for intermediate and professional songwriters and producers in Manitoba.
Running December 5 - 9, the Songsmiths Song Camp will combine co-writing opportunities with creative mentorship for a variety of critical skills including:
- Writing to a brief
- Industry audio standards (including studio terminology, project setup and preparation, gain staging)
- Royalty registration and documentation
- Virtual collaboration
- Accurate cataloging
- Pitching for sync opportunities
- Sample clearances
- Licensing agreements
Throughout the week participants will meet online via Zoom, take part in audio production and music business discussions, and meet mentors. Artists will collaborate in groups of three for various practical development exercises with support from the mentors.
Participants will leave this camp with a clear understanding of what tools and resources they need to collaborate from home and how to use them to facilitate meaningful songwriting and music production with others online.
To participate in Song Camp artists must:
- Be available to participate in Winnipeg, 10 - 5 PM during December 5 - 9
- Be a Manitoba Music member and a current resident of Manitoba
- Have intermediate to professional songwriting and production experience
- Have the ability to record and produce songs via home studio or DIY setup
- Be already producing to an intermediate/advanced level and mixing to a late beginner/early intermediate level
- Playing an instrument is an asset
Preference will be given to participants who have at least three of the following:
- Previous sync placements
- Previously released music with national or international media coverage
- Written for other artists with national or international coverage
- Showcased nationally or internationally within the last four years
- Received regional and national funding for touring or songwriting production
Submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee of industry professionals based on:
- Songwriting and production skills
- Experience and career momentum
