Jazz Fest Gears Up for Summer Festival, June 14-24





































It's time to start making those summer concert plans because Jazz Winnipeg is gearing up for a new edition of TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival!
Kicking off June 14, this year's festivities return to the stage with a genre-spanning lineup that highlights innovative artists from Manitoba shining alongside stellar touring acts from across Canada and beyond.
The Cube at Old Market Square has a packed (and free) lineup for the June 14-24 festival run, each night with a curated show spanning the genres from jazz to electronic and indie pop to Latin and hip hop. Local acts hitting the stage this year include Ami Cheon, Anthony OKS, Ariel Posen, Beatox, Bluebloods, Brandi Vezina, Brazilian Vibe, Casati, Chuck Copenace, Dr Henry Band, El Leon and The Strangers, Eric St. Godard, Flora Luna, French Class, Heitha Forsyth, Ila Barker, Juvel, Jérémie & The Delicious Hounds, Kwiat, Leaf Rapids, Marco Castillo & Brazilian Beats, Mariachi Ghost, Mattmac, Onna Lou, Paige Drobot, Sweet Alibi, The Grey Jays, The Solutions, Trio Bembe, and more.
The Club Series returns to this year's festivities with events at the Fort Garry Hotel, Pyramid Cabaret, Royal Albert Arms, and Dave Barber Cinematheque. Performances at the Royal Albert Arms will run June 21-24 and feature JUNO-winner Will Bonness, Marika Galea, Caity Gyorgy, Kate Wyatt Quartet, The Ostara Project, Jon Gordon Group, Aline Homzy, Gentiane MG, plus nightly jam sessions hosted by Niall Cade. The Pyramid Cabaret will host the Blues Weekend June 23-24, including Romi Mayes, The Perpetrators, Big Dave McLean, Chris Ghidoni Band, Suzie Vinnick, and Lloyd Spiegel. Up-and-coming artists Patrick Coyston Quartet, INGIA, Wild Rice Quartet, and Dan Keding Septet will be at Dave Barber Cinematheque June 18-19 for the Future Stars shows.
Over at the Fort Garry Hotel's newly renovated space June 18-21 will be the Spirit of '73 Series featuring local artists performing major works by superstars, including Sheena Rattai and Vox Populi performing Stevie Wonder’s Innervisions, Apollo Suns doing Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Ego Spank playing Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters, and Erin Propp & Larry Roy interpreting Paul McCartney and Wings’ Band on the Run.
Headliners making their way onto marquees this year include Angélique Kidjo with hometown opener Kelly Bado, Keyon Harrold: Jazz and the Birth of Hip Hop with hometown opener Super Duty Tough Work, Sun Ra Arkestra, Postmodern Jukebox, and Rêve with Preston Pablo.
