sākihiwē festival Brings Live Music Back to Winnipeg's Core and North End This Summer
The sākihiwē festival returns this summer for three days of music and culture in Winnipeg's core and North End. Featuring over 20 First Nation, Métis, and Inuit performers from across Turtle Island, sākihiwē festival once again connects live music with Indigenous and newcomer communities through partnerships with Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre and the Spence Neighbourhood Association.
The festivities ignite on June 23 with Grand Entry at the Exchange Event Centre and continue with two free block parties featuring live music, dancing, BBQs, photo booth, face painters, hoop dance lessons with Shanley Spence, jigging lessons, and more fun for families and music fans alike.
Artists based in Manitoba set to perform this year include award-winning country singer/songwriter Gator Beaulieu, powerful singer Kristen McKay, country artist Martin Desjarlais, Anishinaabe composer and violist Melody McKiver, country/rock/blues singer Norway Rabliauskas, Anishinaabe singer and songwriter Sherri Shorting, Indigenous hip hop artist Stun, DJ The Kaptain, indie rock band Tinge, the Walking Wolf Singers, and more.
Touring artists sharing their music this year include 2oolman, Joel Wood, Jossée Bernier, Nimkish, Prada Monroe, Qattuu with Abigail Asheevak, Valkyrie, and Wyatt C. Louis.
