About

November Underground are a hard hitting and melodic alternative rock band formed in Selkirk, Manitoba fronted by vocalist/guitarist Kalyna Morrow-Litke and guitarist Orvis Thomas, and joined by drummer Mark Bannister and bassist Houston Hill. November Underground have quickly become the de facto house band at The Merch located in Selkirk and have played many shows over 2018-2019 in Selkirk, Winnipeg, Steinbach, and various locales in southern Manitoba.
The origins of NU can be traced to the summer of 2017 during which Orvis, Houston, and the original drummer played together as a trio before adding singer/songwriter Kalyna and officially becoming November Underground, adding many shows at the Merch and soon expanding to Winnipeg and the surrounding area. Drummer Mark Bannister joined in August 2019. Songwriting and energetic performances by the band have drawn comparisons to Stone Temple Pilots, and City and Colour backed by Van Halen.
“Kalyna and I have that singer-guitarist chemistry, like Mick and Keef, Axl n’ Slash. The things she comes up with are gold, I never question it. That extends to the whole band. Houston and I have an almost telepathic connection. I used to joke that we’re the new Cream, but that what it’s like. We can jam forever. Then having Mark step in, who is a very precise drummer, just puts it over the top,” says guitarist Orvis Thomas.
November Underground have recorded singles and demos with Jody Hunter at Studio 23 in southeastern Manitoba during the summers of 2018 and 2019. The songs Feelings and Balls Trippin' are currently available for streaming on SoundCloud, both mixed by Ryan McVeigh and mastered by Scott Pinder.
November Underground are currently recording a full length album in drummer Mark Bannister’s home studio, consisting of live fan favourites and new original material.
A Canadian tour in 2020 with legs in western and eastern Canada is being planned after the album’s release.
