“Swingin’ Tomahawk” ~  guitar slinger Billy Joe Green’s latest album’s a departure from his rockin’ blues stance. It is an intensely personal declaration to fans and music industry types alike of his renewed determination to stake out some new turf on a musical landscape that’s quick to categorize artists .

His signature guitar and musical style ~ inventiveness, technical facility, soulfulness, and humor remain intact, but are taken down some new forks in the road. Billy Joe’s guitar underpins the entire work transitioning effortlessly from pop like playfulness in ‘Great Big World’ to ballad  ‘Rock & Roll Bug’ to a gutsy wailin’ blues moan ‘No Way Home.’ A completely engaging compilation of country, bluegrass, pop, rock n roll, psychedelic spoken word and blues tied together by slick guitar work.

For a musician who’s worked four decades on the dusty & unforgiving Canadian musical landscape, this is no vanity project or ‘been there, done that’ exercise. It is, instead, a portrait of an artist investing renewed creativity & independence ~ his proud Anishinabe roots backed by a rainbow coalition of accomplished musicians, visual artists and technical people to an album filled with joy, purpose and refreshing musical individuality.  ~ Leo Kruzenga
