Christian Dugas

An international touring and session musician, Christian Dugas is recognized by his peers as a dedicated performer and one of Canada’s leading drummers.

Christian’s first memories include Franco-Manitoban gatherings where music was at the heart of community. His first official performance was at the age of ten and by the age of twelve, he was on stage as part of a full-time family musical show.

As a teenager, he was brought on to local bands (Leaderhouse, Rudimental and Scrüj MacDuhk) as a drummer and vocalist. His talent as a session musician saw him contribute to many projects including JUNO-winning Firecracker (Wailin’Jennys, 2006) and Dirty Looks (Derek Miller, 2006).

He was a key band member of the JUNO-winning and Grammy-nominated Folk-fusion band, The Duhks, before forming DUGAS, a duo act with his sibling, Sarah. This project featured their own hard-hitting, heart-felt music drawn from roots, rock and old-fashioned soul, with powerful vocals and musical chemistry. They were signed by Sony/ATV, toured extensively with Zac Brown Band, shared the stage with the likes of Los Lobos, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Wood Brothers, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Arrested Development.

That experience nourished the ties Christian holds in the music communities of Nashville, Lafayette, LA and New York. From his home-base in Winnipeg, he tours as part of Juno-winning artist William Prince’s touring band and with American Carsie Blanton.

As a songwriter, Christian has contributed to more than 150 songs as a co-writer. He has written extensively with his sister as well as songwriters like David Ryan Harris, Blair Daly, Josh Radin, Gabe Dickson and Zac Brown.

Christian is currently channeling his multiple skills of songwriting and performance towards his own creative projects. His solo project pulls from the complexity of his musical journey to focus on the raw essence of his creative purpose: creating textured songs that connect us viscerally to each other.
