About
Eric St. Godard has has been making a name for himself as a band leader, solo artist, and educator in the province. Eric has also worked with some of Manitoba's top jazz musicians since moving back to Winnipeg in 2020.
Although classically trained, he feels most at home in the world of jazz. Eric graduated from the Brandon University School of Music, where he studied under the prominent pianists Micheal Cain and Jeff Presslaff.
His approach to the instrument and improvisational style is strongly influenced by the likes of Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Keith Jarrett, and Herbie Hancock— just to name a few. Ultimately, he strives to bring a refreshing and unique voice to the jazz world that keeps elements from the traditions of the old with the traditions of the new, which embodies the art of story telling in the jazz art form.
In addition to performing, Eric has a growing private studio of students, ranging from 4 years old to adults. He also is an instructor at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts in Winnipeg, MB as a part-time Jazz, Classical and General piano instructor, and has done clinics for the MCMA on jazz history.
Released in the summer of 2021, Eric’s debut EP Perspectives is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms for downloads. Look Here, his second EP, is also avialable on all streaming platforms. Eric will also be releasing two solo piano singles in 2023.
