About

Jenna Valiquette is an Indigenous singer/songwriter from the Interlake region of Manitoba. As a member of Poplar River First Nation, she has recently been focusing on her Ojibwe and Cree roots as she finishes up her Indigenous Studies degree at the University of Winnipeg.

Jenna has played music her entire life, starting classical piano lessons at age 8 and completing her Grade 8 RCM and Advanced Rudiments exams. She taught herself guitar during her teen years, and soon after began performing and writing her own songs. Much of her early contemporary music experience came from her summers spent at the International Music Camp at the International Peace Gardens. Jenna then studied her Contemporary Voice and Songwriting Degree at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney, Australia.

With a love of storytelling and songwriting, Jenna has performed open mic nights and local talent shows. Jenna currently is in the development stage of her music, which pulls from her country roots, tying in indie-inspired acoustic sounds, and she has recently began embracing traditional Indigenous soundscapes in her songs. Jenna is hoping to release a single in the near future.
