Mitchevus

About

With deep grooves, entrancing rhythms, spirited jams and uplifting revelations, Mitchevus (Mitch Kruse’s live act) performs refreshing rock informed by soul, dub and psychedelia. Imagine the feel-good vibes of Bill Withers jammed to the spicy flavours of Khruangbin with the improvisational exploration of Band of Gypsies. Inspired as much by 90s mixtapes as 70s record stacks, Mitchevus simmers an eclectic brew that boils over onto dance floors and satisfies musical appetites.

Mitch Kruse’s emergence as a solo artist is the result of an identity crisis gone right. After a decade of swapping faces, switching scenes, and shifting through shadows, Mitch proves that breakdown may be the way to a breakthrough, and that wholeness can be achieved through reconciling conflicting forces within.

Approaching the creative process with religious devotion and always inspired by Winnipeg’s tight-knit musical community, Mitch is an enthusiastic collaborator who draws from a network of talented friends to feature in his recording projects, support the live performance, or create something entirely new.
Throughout nearly two decades playing the music scene, MItch has been a member of Odder than the Otters, Thrill Thrill, Mas Headspace and

Mojo Method. He has booked, coordinated and promoted hundreds of shows, tour the province and Western Canadam and performed at such festivals as Festival du Voyageur, Rockin the Fields of Minnedosa, Big Fun, Zoo Lights, Tiny Fest, Gentle Fest, Shine On, Fire and Water and Hoot Owl.

With theatrical funk act Mas Headspace, Mitch co-produced two commercial releases and four live high-production “funk operas” and played
annual slots at Winnipeg Fringe Festival and Shine On. In 2011, Mas Headspace’s song “The Everyman” had a three-month run at number
one in the weekly 40 of Winnipeg’s top indie station.

With folk-rock quartet Odder than the Otters, Mitch toured Western Canada, released an EP and played Manitoba festival staples. Their debutsingle, “Hola Luna” was listed as one Canada’s top 50 songs selected by judges/panelists for 2018’s CBC Searchlight Competition.

As a recording artist with various groups, Mitch has learned from some of Manitoba’s best producers, including John Paul Peters (Private
Ear Recording), Lloyd Peterson (Paintbox Recording), Andrew Yankiwski (Precursor Productions), Jason Gordon (Studio 11) and Len Milne (Bedside Studios).

Mitch has also contributed session work or live backing for many artists over the years, including Juno-winner iskwē, Juno-nominee
Leonard Sumner, hometown hip-hop sensation The Lytics, Skylar Bouchard, Rocko Modern and a number of other acts. Throughout his
performing career, he has shared the stage with the likes of Streetheart, Begonia and Micah Erenberg.

Mitch is currently recording a series of releases, the first of which is slated for release in late summer 2023. A genre-jumping melomaniac, Mitch showcases different style pairings on each project to express a constant and rapid evolution as a multifaceted artist
