Sage Stoyanowski

Growing up on a small grass-fed beef farm in the heart of the Interlake, one might assume that Sage Stoyanowski was exposed to a lot of country music. This may be true, although Sage’s musical upbringing from a young age was much broader than those assumptions. Ranging from the Zac Brown Band, to Feist, to ACDC, this eclectic mix has shaped Sage’s ear to be open and willing to try new things.

Sage has grown up surrounded by family jam sessions and performing at various community events along with her dad, sister, and cousins. She began playing piano at age 7, ukulele at 12, and guitar at 14. Song writing became a creative and expressive outlet for her around age 15 and has continued to serve her well while growing up and navigating her move away from home. At age 16, Sage began teaching beginner piano and voice lessons to a studio of nine students. Deciding she wanted to continue her journey as a music educator, Sage is now preparing to begin her third year of studying classical percussion in the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba. Expanding her network and knowledge of music has led to reflection of her roots and a deeper love for local musicians such as William Prince and Madeleine Roger. She is inspired by these “home-grown,” talented musicians among many others.
