University of Manitoba Faculty of Music
About
The Faculty of Music offers a small conservatory atmosphere within a major university setting. Winnipeg's rich and diverse cultural resources - such as the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Opera, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra - combine with our world-class faculty to provide our students with everything from performance to teaching to composition to history. We will offer you an opportunity to experience a wide variety of musical styles, and back that up with a knowledge of, and appreciation for, music history and theory. The Faculty of Music offers instruction on all of the orchestral, band and jazz instruments, in all vocal specialties, and in collaborative piano and chamber music. Performance opportunities abound within our ensemble programs. We invite you to attend our lunch hour and evening recitals: Mid-Day recitals featuring students, faculty, and guest artists, are held on most Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30 to 1:10 pm in our Eva Clare Hall facility. Admission is free. It is recommended that you check our Coming Events Listing for a complete list of all of our upcoming concert events. Those planning to audition to gain entry into the Faculty of Music are recommended to take private instruction and learn some basic theory beforehand. You may register with our Division of Preparatory Studies to find an available instructor.
