Musical Biography of Richard McKay
Richard McKay was born on November 17,1981 and is from Crane River, Manitoba.
He now resides in Brandon, Manitoba working on making his comeback into the music
industry. Having experienced many trials and errors in the past few years Richard is
ready to apply that knowledge and new found desire to his music career. His music
genre is country, alternative rock.
Richard has been working hard at completing his album and has been working on
making this dream a reality since 2007. It has been financially draining but rewarding
at the same time. His team of hired talented artists have been working really hard on
ensuring that the music released is mastered to perfection. Richard's album is almost
finished and nothing will stop or stand in his way of accomplishing his completed album.
He currently has 10 songs completed with seven of them having been played on the
Indigenous Music Count Down. His first release, My Awakening was #1 on the count
down for a period of 3 weeks. Another one of his singles, "I Will Never Let Go" also won
the listeners choice single of the year award at the 2009 NCI Jam. HiS. next release, "A
Lonely Highway" also went # 1 as well as being featured in the Emerging Manitoba
Artists CD that was released through Manitoba Music.
His other releases, "Now You Know" and "Native Pride" also went #1 as well as "Your
Loving Arms" which featured Jessica Chartrand, who won first at the 2009 NCI Jam.
His last song to hit the count down, "Just The Other Day" went to #25 in 2017.
Richard works very closely with his mother, Anita Neault that was also an artist who
performed with the DNA Band that played in local bars and venues. She sings all the
harmonies in Richard's songs. He also works with Jason Gordon, owner, operator of
Studio 11 and has been working with him for the past 10 years. OJ St. Germain also
played a roll in Richards recording. He produced songs like, "I Will Never Let Go, "A
Lonely Highway", "Now You Know", "Your Loving Arms" and "Native Pride as well as

On some of Richard's more recent recordings, he was introduced to a very talented
young man by the name of Jeromy Rusu who plays accoustic and electric guitar, bass,
mandolin, keyboard. The song title, "Hold Me Down" also features Manitoba's well
known fiddler, Patti Kusturok who introduced us to Jeromy, Thanks Patti
Richard's future plans is to complete his album and work with young aspiring Aboriginal
Youth who want to pursue 'a music career. He feels that with his experience and
knowledge, he will help guide them into successful artists. Having overcome so many
obstacles, he feels that he is ready to re-enter the music industry with more passion and
dedication than ever before.
