The Music Managers Forum Canada and Manitoba Music present a panel discussion for artists and managers, addressing issues facing artists and managers in today’s industry. In this workshop, experienced music managers will discuss the opportunities and threats associated with music management this year and in the years to come. This is an ideal forum of discussion for artists and managers at any stage in their career.

In 2009 and looking toward the future, artists are at the centre of business structures in the music industry. Independent artists are more involved in making their own records, distributing them, and getting themselves on the road; and artist management addresses the decisions made at each stage of all these activities. Artists can no longer rely on support from labels, publishers, or agents to break a band or promote a project. Strategic management is more important than ever for emerging and accomplished artists in our rapidly changing industry.

The panel will speak specifically about breaking a new artist in Canada, bringing an artist to the point of being export-ready, and attacking international markets.
