About

Be it physical or digital, releasing a record is still the best opportunity most artists have to market themselves to a broader audience. Unfortunately, many artists don’t take the time to plan a proper release strategy and follow through. This workshop will teach participants the timetables, budgets, marketing, and promotion that go into releasing an album.

About Tonni Maruyama

Tonni started her career in Edmonton at a record retail chain called Mister Sound (now HMV) and from there accepted a CSR position with Capitol Records in Vancouver. Then a move to Nettwerk Records gave her an opportunity to garner firsthand experience in developing artists like Sarah McLachlan from the ground up, delving into all aspects of the business from marketing, promotion, touring to sales. Major label experience followed with marketing positions at Sony and then Polygram (now Universal). Tonni is now happily overseeing Canadian business for the hugely successful indie label, Epitaph Records, working with artists such as Tom Waits, Neko Case, The Weakerthans, Wilco, Bad Religion, Rancid, Nick Cave to name a few.
