About
There are some important things you may not think about when you first begin a career in music: finances and law. In this two-part workshop, we will find out when artists and industry professionals need to begin thinking about these important business fundamentals, and how to get organized for them.
Music Finances: Heather Bishop will guide participants in an overview of book-keeping, general business admin, and income tax from the perspective of a typical career musician or music company – answering some FAQs, discussing CRA’s criteria for eligible expenses, and identifying areas many musicians miss in deductions for their tax returns.
Music Law: We have all heard stories of musicians running into problems by not reading the fine print, but are there other times an entertainment lawyer should be employed? This discussion will be led by Safwan Javed of TOML LLP who will talk about why and when you need an entertainment lawyer.
