About

A discussion about the International market for music by Aboriginal artists, identifying how the markets work, what the main points of contact are and the greatest potential for performances in the US and overseas for Aboriginal artists. Performance opportunities at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will also be discussed.

Based in Galiza (Spain) and Sydney (Australia), Ben Garcia is co-founder of Benxeit Productions and has been director of its international projects since 2001. Looking for new and unique talent to present in different markets around Europe, North America and most recently Australasia is part of his tasks. Back in 2004 Inuit singer Tagaq was one of those artists, who ended up recording in Galiza her award-winning debut album “Sinaa”.

Starting its operations last fall in China, NOVASONik is a brand new initiative focused on building new opportunities which contribute to the international development of independent and up-and-coming artists through a network of festivals and various events around the world.

Melissa Sanchez is co-owner of Emergence Productions which nationally/internationally markets Native American/Indigenous entertainers, produces professional shows, provides industry consultation and mentors Native American youth. Her work in the Native American market includes the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow Music Coordinator (Stage 49), Miss Indian World staff, national Native American music/book sales, Casino Entertainment Manager for the Sky City Casino Hotel, Americans for Indian Opportunity Ambassador Alumni and New Mexico Music Commissioner.

Tewanee Joseph is the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer for the Four Host First Nations Secretariat for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Tewanee is working with VANOC and its partners to ensure unprecedented Aboriginal participation in the planning, hosting and staging of the 2010 Games.

The Four Host First Nations have a number of events planned for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler along with a FHFN 2010 Aboriginal Pavilion.
