BODM (Bruthers of Different Muthers)

PRESS RELEASE
February 15/12

Bruthers of Different Muthers (BODM) spent over a year creating their first album, Speakers of Tomorrow, released in 2011. As self-published songwriters & musicians, having no label, agent or manager backing them, it was some years before they decided to go it alone, release the album, and start putting in the hard work & commitment necessary to promote an album in a record label & cd sales dominated music industry. And their hard work as independent artists has already started to pay-off.

Since the release of their first album in 2011, these talented artists have already received music accolades, including:
• Best Rock CD at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in November of 2011; and
• JUNO Nomination in February of 2012 in the Aboriginal Album category.

• Nominated for Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year & Best New Artist at the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.

The Aboriginal grassroots fan base across Canada gave BODM their first award, and the fans continue to throw their support to the Bruthers, propelling their single “Speakers of Tomorrow” to No. 1 on the National Aboriginal Music Countdown (NAMC) on February 11, 2012, shortly after their JUNO nomination. The band’s second single “How Long” hasn’t been promoted yet, and already its getting airtime plays too.

Following their JUNO nomination, a whirlwind of wider interest and support from the music industry and media has surrounded the Bruthers, and they find themselves conducting multiple interviews in one day and pressed to meet demands. At the same time, BODM is already writing new songs and recording their second album, and planning for their next live shows.

BODM’s show at JUNOFEST in Ottawa alongside other JUNO nominees was yet another step on the music scene ladder and BODMs first chance to share their music with a broader audience. As Native artists, they have come this far because of their people’s support, but at the same time risk being branded as “native musicians”, even with a “pure rock” CD product. Still, it’s only a matter of time before they break that glass ceiling of “independent native musicians” i.e. limited to only one listening audience –Anyone & Everyone who hears BODM’s music knows they are multidimensional artists who have widespread music listening and market appeal.

Brian Cook (NCI Spirit of Manitoba 105.5 Hot Country and More) had this to say after BODM’s JUNO nomination:

BODM’s music “transcends genres”, “can appeal to many people”, “SPEAKS to people”, and is simply “music for PEOPLE”, because the music is just plain “SOLID”. In his opinion, BODM’s album is a straight-up quality rock-recording period! It also happens to spread a positive message about having a VOICE and using it as SPEAKERS OF TOMORROW.

The Bruthers:

Donovan Bruyere: lead vocals, guitarist, songwriter & composer
Michel Bruyere: drummer, songwriter & composer, vocals

Three members of BODM also currently tour and play with Buffy Sainte-Marie.
