Derek Charke: Thirteen Inuit Throat Song Games
R. Murray Schafer: Symphony No. 1
Vincent Ho: The Shaman: Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra
The WSO will perform this program at New York City’s Carnegie Hall as part of Spring for Music, a North American showcase of orchestras featuring six orchestras over six days. Our composer-in-residence Vincent Ho’s percussion concerto The Shaman was the hit of the 2011 NMF, and featured the spectacular solo role of Dame Evelyn Glennie. Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq takes the spotlight for Derek Charke’s evocative Thirteen Inuit Throat Song Games. Canada’s senior composer R. Murray Schafer’s Symphony No. 1 completes this program.
