Cannon Bros. exploded onto the Canadian music scene shortly after their heavily-hyped, self-titled EP with Firecracker/Cloudglow: a blistering slice of power-pop that landed them on the Polaris Music Prize long list. Since then, they’ve been touring, writing, and recording what would become their sophomore effort Dream City: a tour de force of brilliant, sparkling power-pop and a testament to the glowing, anxious heart of wild youth.

Working once again with award-winning recording engineer Cam Loeppky (The Weakerthans, Imaginary Cities), Cannon Bros. took the same formula that made their debut, Firecracker/Cloudglow so successful, and distilled it to its essence for Dream City: opting for the Guided By Voices approach, only two of its 19 tracks break the three-minute mark, leaving room only for shimmering, sugary guitar hooks and vocal melodies built to burrow into your brain and live there for weeks on end. It takes the best of Canada’s 90’s east coast music explosion and injects it with a brand new 21st-century vitality. Dream City is the perfect album to end the summer: a life-affirming joyride that captures that teenage feeling we’re all addicted to chasing.
