About

Celebrated BC singer/songwriters Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone bring their project Tower of Song – a creative tribute to Leonard Cohen to the West End Cultural Centre on June 3rd.

Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone are a duo of "workers in song" based in Victoria, BC, Canada. Tower of Song is not only a well-known Leonard Cohen song, it’s the moniker given to a new creative project that pays tribute to the legendary Canadian poet/songwriter.   They re-imagine and interpret the songs of Leonard Cohen, as well as present their own original material. The duo collaborates with a rotating cast of guest artists for each show.

In their live show, expect a night of rare and classic selections from the Leonard Cohen canon fearlessly interpreted by these artists, with a few original compositions and readings, rounding out an evening that celebrates Canada's greatest bard and his influence on modern song writing. Hear Cohen’s timeless songs arranged for two voices, banjo, string bass, piano and guitar. Together Swain and Garramone have crafted vocal arrangements of the great works of Cohen that will satiate and astonish the die-hard Cohen fan in everyone. After several sold-out shows on Vancouver Island, BC, Tower of Song continues to expand their geographical range to put “more power in the tower!”

“Tower of Song continues to be one of the most fulfilling projects I've ever worked on” comments Glenna Garramone. “The songs of Cohen just keep on givin', no matter how many times I play them. I've always wondered what it would be like to be in a position as a performer where the audience always wants to hear the same thing... would I get bored?  Would it become a chore?  But this project has given me a window into that experience.  When a song is timeless, it's new each time you play it.”
