Come and join us as we kick of Pride week with the talented singer/songwriter Tresaure Peterson

Treasure Peterson comes from a long line of musicians from both her father's and mother's side of the family. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, when she was a baby, her father literally sang the music into her. He used to sing nursery rhymes in Jazz scat. She first started playing Jazz drums at the age of three. Treasure grew up on the West Island of Montreal. Her brother Randy Peterson gave her a guitar when she was 10. She attended classical guitar lessons at Sunnybrooke Park community center and easily translated what she learned into pop and rock music. When her brother, Garry Peterson of The Guess Who heard her play Led Zepplin, "Stairway to Heaven" he immediately gave her an electric guitar and small amp. Treasure then sought out other young people and formed a band called "Jade". She learned and arranged the set songs then literally taught them to the other band members. They played their first gig at the Sunnybrooke pool where she made her first $2 as a professional musician. She was twelve years old. Treasure graduated Lindsay Place High School having been a member of the high school band playing first trumpet throughout her high school years. She played in other bands with other young musicians in those years appearing at Lindsay Place High and Beaconsfield High. When she left high school she returned to Winnipeg Manitoba where she played a few shows in the feminist community, mainly at the Women's Building and Ms. Purdy's. She also played the dinner hour at Giovanni's Room when it was located across from Happenings on Sherbrooke. She did many benefits for Chillaian refugies, The Women's Building and Wolseley street block party.Following this, Treasure took a break from music becoming immersed with daily living and day jobs. She returned to performing in 1995 where she performed at Ms. Purdys, Gios and The Heartland. Treasure began writing an album. She attempted recording in 1999 but the project ran out of money and has been halted since. Working through the complexities of learning she had lupus in 2008, Treasure has been fighting back and has decided that her music needs to be recorded. She is in the process of raising funds to record a single for the purpose of selling on ITunes Canada. She hopes to return to the stage sometime this year. If you like the gruff gravel voice of Janis Joplin, you will love Treasure's sound.
