About
The September 11, 1973 Chilean coup d'état was a watershed event in both the history of Chile and the Cold War. Following an extended period of social and political unrest between the right-dominated Congress of Chile and the elected socialist President Salvador Allende, as well as economic warfare ordered by US President Richard Nixon, Allende was overthrown by the armed forces and national police.
Andino Suns and The Mariachi Ghost come together to reflect on the violation of civil rights that occurred during the coup and Pinochet’s dictatorship; The Andino Suns are first generation Chileans whose parents were exiled during this dictatorship.
Regina’s multi-instrumental group Andino Suns have been captivating audiences since 2009 with fiery instrumentation, inspirational live performances and a resounding message of freedom, hope and love. Their music fuses the vibrant traditional sounds of the Latin America with modern Latin grooves and rhythms. 2015 Western Canadian Music Award Nominees Andino Suns will be celebrating the release of their third album "Madera".
From driving rhythms and soaring melodies, to brooding synths and dreamy vocal breaks, The Mariachi Ghost fuses traditional Mexican song, progressive rock, and a flair for the dramatic, to ignite the world of their namesake’s tenuous existence.
