Local JUNO Award Winning Label Hits the 15-Year Mark With Celebration!

Fifteen years ago, surrounded by an ocean of wheat and snow, Balanced Records was created to harness the talent from a collective of emerging Winnipeg electronic producers. 

Since that time, the label’s catalogue of close to 60 titles has included tracks from artists around the globe pushing their artistic and creative limits outer-nationally.  From remixing ancient Ukrainian narratives to Inuit and Algonquin singing,  to global dub-reggae pioneers, the Balanced crew has occupied a distinct sonic landscape.

Some of the highlights over the years have ranged from DJ Brace's JUNO award for Instrumental Album of the Year in 2009, the 2012 nomination for Flying Down Thunder & Rise Ashen's seminal One Nation in the Aboriginal Album of the Year category, a collaboration between famed David Lynch composer Angelo Badalamenti and Fascade@137db, releasing material from a producer with The Roots & Wu Tang Clan (J57) and music featured on TV shows such as Alias, LA Complex, Beauty and the Beast and Prison Break.

Balanced has also hosted prominent showcases at music festivals in France, Germany and across North America, along with two JUNOfest events and the Western Canadian Music Awards electronic music showcase.

On October 15th, the label is celebrating this milestone with JUNO winner and 2016 Canadian DMC champ DJ Brace as he returns alongside Montreal’s Seed Organization, the dub-reggae captain.
