About

Boreal Sons:
Calgary band Boreal Sons, Evan Acheson, Regan Cole McLean, and Zach Schultz, never had the same guitar player for any two consecutive releases so when they finished touring overseas in 2014, they found themselves at a sonic crossroads. They were filled with doubt and uncertain about their future. This identity crisis drove Boreal Sons to forge ahead without a guitarist and experiment with their sound in their sophomore album You & Everyone.

Under the guidance of producer Jonathan Anderson (Aidan Knight, Jordan Klassen), You & Everyone is a textured and emotive affair filled with a bevy of keyboards, layers of synths, the gritty bass of McLean, and Shultz’s commanding percussion section. With Acheson’s sonorous voice an anchor throughout, the album is a mix of light (“Strangers”) and dark (“Midnight Mass”), introspective downtempo tracks (“All Catastrophe Dies”) and beautifully layered pop songs (“Another You”). You & Everyone is a bold step forward for Boreal Sons and marks a confident new chapter in their career.

Adam Hanney:
An exercise in songwriting that turned into a 3 year process of writing, recording, and learning. Since it's simple inception at the beginning of 2012, the album has been put through it's paces time and time again. Starting with the pressure of delivering a concise piece of music every 30 days, then later moving on to the daunting task of developing each song past their basic acoustic guitar and vocal beginnings into flesh-out, full-band affairs.

Described by CBC Radio 3's Grant Lawrence as "uptempo, triumphant, nerdy indie rock anthems", by Grayowl Point as "...vibrant, nervous, expectant...", by BeatRoute with “stinging guitar licks, shimmering synths[...]careening vocals[...]anthemic indie-rock ambitions”, and by Exclaim! as "fast-paced and adept at finding the balance between rock riffs and synth-driven pop melodies", "12/12" touches on youthful indie rock, searing alt-country, eerie synth pop, traditional RnB ballads, and contemporary singer-songwriter pieces, all while documenting a year-in-the-life of the then 18-year-old songwriter.
