About

Composing and licensing music for film and television have become a significant part of the business of music publishing. This workshop will discuss the artistic, logistic, and legal aspects of music placements and scoring for film and TV. Steven has 16 years of experience finding and negotiating real deals for musicians and film producers, and building sustainable, long-term careers in this area. He will discuss the particular artistic demands placed on music used for film, documentary, television, and advertising; the best methods for finding a placement for your music; and the legalities of licensing music.

Steven Scharf Entertainment (SSE) was formed in 1991 to manage and develop the careers of independent record producers and recording artists. Over the past 16 years SSE has evolved to include the management of film & tv composers as well as the music licensing of many new and established artists to film and television.

Today, Steven Scharf is also Sr. VP of Creative for the Film and Television division of Carlin America, and oversees the licensing of such established songwriters and artists as AC/DC, Jim Steinman (Meat Loaf), The Lovin' Spoonful, The Turtles, James Brown, Bobby Darin and Billie Holiday among many others.

Steven continues to find and develop new artists, composers, songwriters and producers. Steven's clients have been involved with such television series as "Street Time" (SHO) and films such as "High Art" (October Films), "Kissing Jessica Stein" (Fox Searchlight Films), "The Vagina Monolgues" (HBO), the award winning "American Splendor" (Fine Line Pictures) and the upcoming "Cold Mountain" (Miramax Films).
