About

Winnipeg’s Little Opera Company presents Opera Shorts, a cabaret style performance featuring three short works, all by Canadian composers. Join Winnipeg’s own Little Opera Company for a lively evening of opera and revelry featuring a mix of well known names from Winnipeg’s music community, along with a number of up and comers.

The evening will feature A Tall Order by John Greer (Winnipeg, MB), The Confused Castrato by Michael McKay (Winnipeg, MB), and La Casati by Bryce Kulak (Edmonton, AB) and Erin Shields (Montréal, QC).

Short comic opera A Tall Order depicts the first dinner date of a contemporary young courting couple, while The Confused Castrato is about a young man who has been altered to sing the role of a woman singing roles designed for pubesent young men, but now he is being called upon to sing the role of a man- can he measure up? Rounding out the evening is La Casati, inspired by The Marchesa Casati painted in 1919 by Augustus John. It is the story of a socialite who has practically exhausted all her wealth. John, a painter to whom she was patron, has a heart to heart conversation during a long overdue visit about the reality of her life at this point. They reminisce, filling the audience in on her opulent past and resigned present existence.
