About

GroundSwell is pleased to present an exciting new music concert performed by Emerado with special
guest, saxophone virtuoso, Allen Harrington celebrating technology. Taking it’s theme from the
invention of Technicolor this multi media concert combines voices with acoustic and electro-acoustic
instruments, video and lighting to enhance the visual and aural colours of the music. The term “Glorious
Technicolor” was coined in 1932 to advance the new three-strip colour camera that ushered in the age
of colour films.

The concert event features two world premieres by Heidi Ugrin “In Glorious-Techno-Colour” and
“Chrominance” by Gordon Fitzell, along with recent compositions and arrangements by Randolph
Peters, David Scott, Jerry Semchyshyn and Örjan Sandred.

This concert is being recorded live by CBC Radio for a national broadcast.

EMERADO is made up of Winnipeg performers Rosemarie van der Hooft, soprano, Mel Braun,
baritone, and pianist Laura Loewen and special guest saxophone virtuoso Allen Harrington.

The event will include works by; Randolph Peters’ Au Claire de lune using an 1857 phono-autograph
fragment and other early recordings to bring back voices from the past, evoking a musical séance.

Other works featured are; David Scott’s Disordered Songs (2005) using texts from the “Fridge Magnet
Cycle” of Steven Mayoff. Jerry Semchyshyn’s dramatic song cycle Kanon about the effects of the
nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Heidi Ugrins’, In Glorious Techno-Colour a premiere for ensemble with
tape, Örjan Sandred’s “Ice Fog” for saxophone and piano, and Gordon Fitzell's Chrominance, in
which the ensemble are video taped live for interactive video projections on screen in the theatre.

Ticket prices are: $19 for Adults, $17 for Seniors, and $9 for Students are available through GroundSwell
