About

The 2nd annual Prairie Wind Music Festival takes place Saturday, June 1, 2013, noon ‘til night, located in the heart of rural Manitoba.  The event brings families and friends together for a full day of world class music, camping, food, and activities for everyone.

This year’s program sees an incredible 25-bill line up of music from all genres, including Del Barber, The JD Edwards Band, Vanessa Kuzina of Oh My Darling, Bad Country, The Reverend Rambler, Red Moon Road, Marcel Desilets Trio, The Bros Landreth, Carly Dow, Nadia Gaudet, and many more.  Enjoy a pulled pork roast at 5:30pm, or one of the many vendors including flavored corn specialists ‘Corn on the Curb’!

Set on a picturesque prairie scene, the Cypress River Resource Center grounds host the event which drew crowds from all over the prairies in its successful inaugural year.  A performer from last year’s festival, Karli of The Reverend Rambler Band, offers her thoughts: “From the moment the Rev and I walked up to this magical little prairie scene with the sun shining, everyone greeting us with warm smiles and the music playing, we knew it was going to be a wonderful day. 14 hours of music, sunshine, amazing food, dancing, camping, and good times, we absolutely cannot wait for this year's festival already. The hospitality that the town puts on for this event is amazing.”

The event is driven by the non-profit, volunteer-driven Cypress River Resource Centre, who has purchased and revitalized the closed-down elementary school into a destination for people from all over Manitoba, including hosting long term LPN training courses with students from Brandon-based Assiniboine Community College.  “Small but mighty, the festival hopes for intimacy, uniqueness, production quality, and hospitality,” state festival organizers.  “Visitors will enjoy the opportunity to see some of Canada’s hottest musicians alongside new, local talent in an intimate setting, and to celebrate the joys of music and community. Rock, blues, country, old-time, jazz, children’s music… the Festival will have something for everyone!”

All proceeds from the festival go to community projects.  Tickets available at the gate for $40 adults, $20 child 4-12 years old, or $100 for a family pass.  Free primitive camping all weekend with each ticket.  In case of inclement weather, an indoor venue (the rink) is reserved.  Head to Cypress River – rain or shine!
