Manitoba all-female quartet Oh My Darling announce their release concert for their new French-language EP, Venez danser. Winnipeg bluegrass/folk duo Fire and Smoke will open the show. Co-presented by the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the West End Cultural Centre, the music happens on January 26th, 2013 at the WECC.

With an EP and two full albums to their credit, Oh My Darling is happy to announce the release of their very first recording comprised entirely of French material. The 6-song EP titled Venez Danser is a collection of the French material the gals have been performing and recording over the last four years, and features Oh My Darling's unique talent for combining intricately arranged traditional music with beautiful original material.

Venez danser was primarily recorded with producer Norman Dugas in Winnipeg, as well as with Lloyd Peterson and Steve Dawson for two remixed songs. Having two French-speaking members (MJ and Vanessa), the band hopes Venez Dansez will enable them to reach out to their French-speaking fans, all the while sharing the beauty of the French language and its music with their English-speaking fans. Inspired by the music and history of the Franco-Métis people in their home province of Manitoba, the gals also drew inspiration from other Franco-traditional music such as Cajun, Acadian, and Quebecois, to create a beautiful blend of original song writing, and uniquely arranged traditional tunes and songs.

Oh My Darling is the combination of four strong personalities (Allison de Groot, Vanessa Kuzina, Marie-Josée Dandeneau and Rosalyn Dennett), formed during a particularly frosty Manitoba winter in 2008. Their prairie roots mixed with bluegrass, Appalachian old time, southern twang, and Franco-folk, makes Oh My Darling’s style a melting pot of musical languages. Infused with dynamic vocals, brilliant claw-hammer banjo, inspired fiddling, and grooving bass, their music will get your hips swinging, toes tapping, and put your heart right into their hands!

Their self-titled debut EP, released in 2009, received a nomination for Best Roots Album at the Western Canadian Music Awards. In 2010, they record their first full-length album In the Lonesome Hours, with renowned producer Lloyd Peterson (Wailin’ Jennys and James Keelaghan), which also received a nomination at that year’s Western Canadian Music Awards. In the past four years, the band has toured non-stop throughout Europe and Canada, rapidly becoming the darlings of the folk and country festival circuit.

Individually, they are known as some of the hottest players on the Canadian roots scene, but there is strength in numbers, and combined, the foursome is strong as steel!
