About

2012 Canadian Folk Music Award Nominees Sweet Alibi launch new album We’ve Got To at the West End Cultural Centre on November 20th with The Bros. Landreth opening the show.

Sweet Alibi’s new album We’ve Got To is bursting at the seams with raw, emotional material, experienced songwriting with local talent (Alex Campbell, Alasdair Dunlop) backing them up and a multi-instrumentalist producer (Rusty Matyas of Imaginary Cities).

When choosing to work with producer Rusty Matyas (Imaginary Cities) “We knew we needed to find a producer who can not only capture the ongoing evolution of the Sweet Alibi sound from folk finesse to progressing pop presence, but enhance it effortlessly” explains the band. Matyas was the obvious and right choice for their new release. The result is 10 tracks that don’t hide from heavy issues and collective life experiences.

The last time Sweet Alibi played at the WECC it was for a Woody Guthrie Tribute show – singing I Ain’t Got No Home while putting their own Sweet Alibi twist on it.  “The Word’s, I Ain’t Got No Home” are very relevant these days, seeing as how we have been on the road so much the last year.”  I Ain’t Got No Home hit home and made the cut for We’ve Got To.

Canadian Folk Music Award Nominees Sweet Alibi (Jessica Rae Ayre, Amber Nielsen, and Michelle Anderson) captivate audiences with their alluring blend of soulful melody, pop sensibilities and folk/roots tradition. Backing their vocals with electric guitars, banjos, hand percussion, ukuleles, upright bass, and whatever else they can get their hands on, Sweet Alibi compliment a diverse set with an equally eclectic instrumentation.
