Mendelssohn: Overture, The Fair Melusina
Schumann: Konzertstück for Four Horns and Orchestra
Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major (Eroica)

Robert Schumann’s Konzertstück is a dazzling Romantic work whose trajectory of heroism through introspection has the WSO’s superb horn section taking the spotlight in front of the orchestra.

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 changed the course of musical history through its depth of expression and unprecedented artistic vistas. Originally entitled “Bonaparte,” the music was inspired by Napoleon as rescuer of his people from tyranny. But when Beethoven found out Napoleon had declared himself emperor, the enraged composer changed the designation to Eroica symphony: “Heroic symphony, to celebrate the memory of a great man.”
