About
SATURDAY, APRIL 19 · 8:00 PM
Verdi’s Requiem is the grandest, most ambitious sacred work of the late 19th century. Widely described as an opera in church clothing, the music overflows with theatre and drama whose ample supply of vivid scene painting (the terrifying Dies Irae), lavish aria-like lyricism and spellbinding operatic gesture combine for a riveting emotional experience. Composer Johannes Brahms said it best when asked to honour his Italian colleague, “Verdi’s Requiem is a work of genius.”
