Max Richter re-imagines the past. In Four Seasons Recomposed Richter rewrites Vivaldi’s iconic work The Four Seasons. “At every point I had to work out how much is Vivaldi and how much is me. It was difficult but also rewarding because the raw material is so fascinating.” Voted #1 in iTunes Best of Classical in 2012.
Valentin Silvestrov imagines the afterlife. His Requiem for Larissa was written in memory of his late wife. Silvestrov felt when writing his “Requiem for Larissa” that it would be his last composition. Every melody sounds like the reverberation of something that has already gone. Every feature of style speaks of things long over. “I do not write new music. My music is a response to and an echo of what already exists.”
