About

Weber Brothers Celebrate 15 Years

Baltimore born brothers Ryan and Sam Weber have been producing albums, performing live and traveling extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe for 15 years now. Through their now almost folkloric adventures and personal connections with some of rock's most iconic figures (Chuck Berry, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Kris Kristofferson, etc) they have earned a reputation as the "torch bearers of rock n roll". And between their all-or-nothing work ethic (learned firsthand at rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins' infamous "90 Day Rock n Roll Boot Camp") and their widely renowned musical ability have become one of the most respected bands working out there today.

This July, the Weber Brothers (along with their new, bigger band) will once again tour western Canada, this time in support of a recently released retrospective "best of" album, as well as a feature length documentary scheduled to premiere in Fall 2015 entitled "Before We Arrive".

"It's hard to believe it's been 15 years. Most bands don't make it that long," states Sam Weber. "To have people believe in what we do and stick with us all this time is really a blessing. It's thanks to them that we made it this far. And I consider it our duty to keep improving and keep growing, to show them a side of us they haven't seen before."

This sense of duty has seen the brothers explore many musical styles and instrumentations over the years. Most recently transitioning the band from a four piece, featuring Weber veterans multi-instrumentalist Rico Browne and his brother Marcus Browne on drums, to a newly formed six piece with two new members...

First, Prufrock Shadowrunner, born in Jamaica, raised in Ottawa. Poet, DJ, and percussionist. Also Canada's reigning National Spoken Word Champion, winning an unprecedented third national title this past April in Vancouver and slated to represent Canada at the World Finals next year in France.

"I can't think of too many artists who can leave a crowd speechless," says Sam. "Pruf can do it at will."

Second, Emily Burgess, expert guitarist, blues scholar and former member of the Juno nominated 24th Street Wailers.

"Anyone with Emily's skill and knowledge would be an asset to any band. She's obsessed just like we are and lives to play. But it's not just that she's a great guitar player for us...She's the right great guitar player for us. There's a big difference. An invaluable one."

The now six piece Weber Brothers band promises newfound levels of height and depth, as well as a more confident, less urgent approach,  seemingly owing to 15 plus years experience in the sometimes brutal but always rewarding world of music.

"This band excites me. We challenge each other to go higher and push harder without saying a word. It's new territory," says Sam. "And we owe it to all our friends, fans, mentors and ourselves to rise to the challenge and deliver a show worth remembering."

The Weber Brothers play the Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club on July 17th and 18th. Doors at 8:30. Tickets are $20.
