ABOUT MICAH BARNES
Former founding member of The Nylons, Micah Barnes is a busy music industry voice and performance coach. In addition, he’s established himself as a lauded solo jazz singer-songwriter. Micah is a true performer that will leave a room with a lasting positive impression not soon forgotten. Witness Micah Barnes live in concert - September 20th at the West End Cultural Centre.

Cutting his teeth in the cabarets and jazz clubs of Toronto while still a teenager, Micah Barnes became a well-loved singer songwriter on the Queen Street scene before joining & touring the world with The Nylons. Recording with the A Capella Pop act brought Micah into the global music scene and landed him in Venice Beach, California where he launched a solo career touring the U.S. which led to his #1 international club hit "Welcome To My Head" and coverage in Rolling Stone Magazine as "an indie artist to watch".

Returning to the jazz oriented song writing of his earlier years has resulted in a series of critically acclaimed solo recordings including his most recent Domesticated, which saw Micah returning to tour across Canada solo and with his trio.

Micah's upcoming collection New York Stories, (due fall 2014), pays homage to the rich musical history of the Big Apple with songs that describe a long distance romance using the rhythms of the Cotton Club, the Brill Building, The Apollo Theatre and classic Broadway. The results are an assured collection of deeply personal and sophisticated songs that remind us that, like Micah's musical heroes Tony Bennett, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Ray Charles, the deepest of musical traditions are always contemporary.

Micah's vocal coaching credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit CBC TV show "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria", Broadway cast members of "Pricilla Queen Of The Desert" "Pippin" and "Matilda" as well as working with established jazz, R&B and pop artists such as Universal Record Artist Blake McGrath ("So You Think You Can Dance Canada") members of The Parachute Club and 5 time Juno award winner Billy Newton Davis.

His Singers Playground studio has trained thousands of singers in Los Angeles, New York and in Canada to make the most of their instruments and career opportunities.

Show opener and Winnipeg vocalist Monika Wall’s musical styling seamlessly slips between chamber pop and vintage cabaret. Her songs are influenced by the music of Hollywood in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. Contagious melodies hold the ear captive while thoughtful lyrics ponder life’s current and timeless queries. Monika possesses a broad vocal range and uses the full extent of it.
