Nobu Plays Beethoven's Emperor

May 8 & 9 2015 8:00 PM
Centennial Concert Hall
555 Main St
Winnipeg, MB

Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor”
Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5

Alexander Mickelthwate - conductor
Nobuyuki Tsujii - piano

Blind since birth, Nobuyuki Tsujii’s star has had a meteoric rise since he won first prize at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. “You feel God’s presence in the room when he played” the late Van Cliburn himself enthused. Our cheering audience agreed when Nobu made his WSO debut in 2013 so we couldn’t wait to invite him back for Beethoven’s magnificent “Emperor” Concerto. We close with Shostakovich’s most acclaimed work, his epic Fifth Symphony.
