Giya Kancheli’s music has been a highlight of our New Music Festivals. Dixi, for mixed chorus and orchestra has been described as “Carmina Burana as re-imagined by Arvo Pärt.” The hushed string pianissimos that emerge from the reverberation of the tumultuous percussion fortissimos and the soft choral lines are hallmarks of Kancheli’s evocative style. Called "one of the most original musical thinkers of the new century" (Alex Ross, The New Yorker), John Luther Adams is a composer whose life and work are deeply rooted in the natural world.
