About
The Black River Drifters CD Release Party
Hailing from Winnipeg — the "Nashville of the North" — Black River Drifters is an original Americana/roots rock band, drawing on elements from various styles including country, rock, folk and blues to create a distinctive new sound.
With a penchant for storytelling, the band's diverse influences include gritty legends like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr, southern rock pioneers like the Allman Brothers, Canadian giants such as Blue Rodeo, and contemporary acts like Ryan Adams and Hank III.
The band has a fierce work ethic and DIY spirit. For the past year they've been in a recording studio they built themselves, working on their first album — an entirely self-produced collection of southern-tinged Americana/roots music. The diverse eight-song album blends vocal harmony, acoustic and electric guitar, slide guitar, pedal steel, accordion, banjo, organ, and various forms of percussion. Although the ingredients are traditional, the resulting sound is distinctive and evokes dark, lush images drawn from Canadian and American history and the band members' own lives.
