About

The Winnipeg Boys’ Choir invites the public to help celebrate its 90th Season by attending its spring concert “Share the Joy!” at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church on May 10th 2015 at 4:00 pm. Our current choir of 49 will be joined by several former directors and accompanists, along with soloists drawn from an Alumni Chorus of singers from 16 to 81! This will be a musically inspiring and heartwarming event, perfect for after Mother’s Day lunch or before supper. A post-concert reception will feature displays of memorabilia, photographs and memories.

The Winnipeg Boys' Choir was established in 1925 with the support of the Men's Music Club of Winnipeg. 90 years later, the choir continues to delight audiences with its high standards of musicality and vocal training. Through the decades, the choir has won many awards and accolades at local music festivals. Its musical contributions are regularly sought by other fine organizations including the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Canzona, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, and Camerata Nova.

How many boys and young men have developed their voices, shared friendships and enchanted audiences over nine decades? We can't know, but it must be thousands. Our alumni chorus on May 10th will feature men who were members of the choir in every decade from 1941 to 2014—singers from 8 decades!

In addition to the many who continue to sing for pleasure, numerous WBC alumni have gone on to make their living in performance ranging from opera to metal. Household names include Len Cariou, currently playing in the television series Blue Bloods; Bassist Dave Young; the late mayor Bill Norrie; and Derek Aasland, until last year the Artistic Director of the Manitoba Theatre for Young People and currently responsible for the opening ceremonies of the 2015 Pan-Am games in Toronto.
