About

Helen White’s Students

Saturday, August 15, $5 @ 7:30

ASHLEY FREDETTE:

Ashley Fredette is a singer who has recently made the leap from the classical world to jazz. In 2014, she graduated from CMU with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Education (studying under Monica Huisman and Henriette Schellenberg). When she isn't singing opera in competitions or summer programs, Ashley loves to sing and play piano, guitar or ukulele in a variety of styles spanning the classic jazz standards to pop to French cabaret to folk. Over the past year, Helen White has vastly expanded her repertoire and encouraged her to play piano and to write her own music, much of which is in the works. She is very excited to be performing at Sam's Place, and looks forward to doing more gigs in the future!

SHANNON KRISTJANSON:

Shannon Kristjanson is a saxophonist, flutist, and vocalist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Since completing her degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Manitoba she has continued to perform in a wide variety of musical settings ranging from saxophone with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra to flute with the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Winnipeg. She has played with Papa Mambo, is part of Steve Kirby’s Longitude Project, is one-third of the vocal jazz/folk trio, collage-à-trois and is also busy as a clinician and educator around Winnipeg.

ALYSSA DALE: Aly Dale has been singing for the past nine years. She sings songs from a variety of genres, such as country, pop, jazz, and blues, putting her own twists on the songs she covers. Over the past four years, Aly has performed with music groups such as the Providence Chamber Singers and the Providence Jazz Band, as well as independently at various venues and events. These include several coffee houses, The Smith, Sam’s Place, The Promenade, The Loft, The Free Press Cafe, and The Travel Mug Cafe, to name a few, and she has recently started busking around the streets of Winnipeg.

PATRICK BINNE:

Patrick is a bilingual songwriter who doesn't just speak in two languages. He writes in both his mother tongue (French), as well as English, and sings them with pleasure either self-accompanied with the guitar or on piano. Currently studying jazz voice under Helen White. Although Patrick has an eclectic feel to his performing, with repertoire ranging from jazz standards to the Beatles to 80s pop, not to mention his own originals, one cannot help but recognize common threads that draw the listener back to his own life experience.
