Every now and then an artist comes along who seems to transcend human limits to communicate straight from the soul. Trumpetist Joe Burgstaller is just such a musician and will kick off our first-ever Trumpet Festival, with Hummel’s famed concerto like you’ve never heard it before. Stravinsky’s Petrushka also features the trumpet in its entertaining narrative of a puppet suddenly endowed with life, enhanced here with screen images depicting the music’s story. Canadian composer John Estacio’s Brio is a cinematic treat and a perfect opener for this evening of vivid and visual music.
