Greg Lowe has been composing and performing in Winnipeg for over thirty years. He has released seven CDs of original jazz compositions and has had several works performed by the Winnipeg Symphony. Focusing on composition as much as guitar performance, Lowe’s body of work has grown to include large orchestra, chamber ensembles, theatre, television, dance, radio musicals and dramas.
Jack Semple has enjoyed a solo recording career that has resulted in the release of ten albums. In 1992, Semple came to national prominence through winning the MuchMusic “Guitar Wars” contest. Semple has been twice nominated, in 1999 and 2000, for a Gemini Award for his soundtrack work on the television series Incredible Story Studio. Semple won a Juno award in 1991 for best roots recording. He has won two Western Canadian music awards for “Qu’Appelle” and “In the Blue Light”.
Lowe and Semple met in the late ‘80s touring across the country with the Toronto R&B group the Lincolns and have continued collaborating as the guitar duo The Chess Club. This concert will celebrate the release of their second CD which features a variety of acoustic guitar styles and concepts with a little vocalizing adding colour to the mix.
