Annual Fall Jazz Party at the 40
The annual “Jazz Party at the 40” features three bands representing the vibrancy of the jazz program at the Brandon University School of Music. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Eric Platz, the BU “Gigantic Band” (23 members mighty!) performs an eclectic body of big band repertoire including the classic swing of Count Basie, the funk of New Orleans gospel, and the deep groove of
Afro-Cuban montunos. Joining the Gigantic Band at the party will be two combos from the School of Music performing sets of classic jazz standards, 1950s-60s gospel and blues-influenced “soul jazz”, and music from ground-breaking contemporary composers. This is a rare opportunity to experience jazz in its diversity of forms and support a talented bunch of young performers.
