About

Stomperfest is a unique, down home music and dance festival held in Reedy Creek / Kinosota Manitoba July 15, 16 and 17, 2016. The festival features live music from all genres, the World Jigging and World Aboriginal Square Dancing Championships and much more including fun activities for the whole family. Stomperfest was created by Arnold Asham (Asham Curling) and has been running for the past 13 years.

Arnold is Métis and comes from Reedy Creek. Growing up he spent hours dancing the Red River Jig at his uncle’s home. In 2002 his passion for his heritage and dance led him to form the Asham Stompers. The dance troop has travelled all over the world performing a combination of the Red River Jig and square dancing to help preserve the history of Métis and First Nations people. Arnold quickly understood how powerful music and dance is in bringing people together. He wanted to create an even greater impact and in 2003 opened up the Asham Family Homestead as the venue for Stomperfest. He went so far as to build a stage right off the back of the house and turn the expansive yard into a campground. Each year thousands of people come from all over Manitoba and beyond to camp, enjoy the music and dance.
