About

We can’t believe it either, but a true Canadian musical icon will be gracing us this August after an appearance at the previous weekend’s Trout Forest Music Festival in Ear Falls, Ontario. Since her very first recording in 1981, Jane Siberry has become celebrated for forging her own path in music. Over three decades she has created one of the most original and admired bodies of work in contemporary music, ranging from the pop of "Mimi On The Beach" to the mysticism of the 21-minute epic "Oh My My" to the beloved "Calling All Angels" that she performed with kd lang in 1993. She's also responsible for the theme song to the television series Maniac Mansion, and the song “It Can’t Rain All the Time” for the movie The Crow.

Sharing the bill on this very special night are one of Winnipeg’s newest yet most familiar musical projects, Leaf Rapids. Fronted by husband & wife Keri & Devin Latimer, Leaf Rapids came out of their popular indie folk band, Nathan, who won 2 Canadian Folk Music titles and the 2008 Juno award for Roots Traditional Album of the Year.

Their sound resembles the Canadian grasslands, as beautiful as they are harsh, taking notes from Canada’s soft tones and tough seasons. From Keri’s sweet, Dolly Parton-esque vocal styling, to Devin’s slow-and-steady bass lines, their debut album 'Lucky Stars' wears a three-piece searsucker suit that’s been rubbed in the mud. Songs like “April” and “Healing Feeling” are as much country roots as they are atmospheric pop while “Vulture Lullaby” and the title track find focus with a more cosmopolitan Americana sound, showing a far-ranging vision of country & western music that stretches from Manitoba to Memphis.
