About

Our cold February weather can be unbearable if we don’t have a way to thaw out our souls. What better way than with a toasty pot of Bluegrass to warm your inner whippoorwill?

This show features some of the best pickers Manitoba has to offer! The Stonypoint Power Trio, Jess Reimer & Jeremy Hamm, The Osmond Davis Band will perform a night of original and traditional bluegrass music and attempt to blow the roof off the West End Cultural Centre. Hard hats will not be provided.
Included also is a short set by fiddling twins Double the Trouble and special guests Doug Reimer and TJ Blair will also make an appearance!

Bios:
STONYPOINT POWER TRIO:
Stonypoint Power Trio (SPT) is Robert Allan Wrigley (banjo, mandolin, vox), Ken Kansas (guitar, mandolin, vox) and Tim ‘Catface’ Longbottom (bass, vox). SPT was spawned after the semi-crumbling of the original five piece Stonypoint, a bluegrass band in which Rob and Tim were founding members. Kansas had been ‘filling’ for the mandolin player for a few gigs. When hired for a gig originally as a four piece, the fiddle player did not show up and Rob, Ken and Tim played on as a trio. What they found was they could produce that funky Manitoba power groove and be loud and proud as a trio. A ‘Power Trio’. SPT plays almost exclusively original songs as all three members write and are currently recording their first album.

The Osmond Davis Band:
In a place as flat as their prairie home, The Osmond-Davis Band ensure mountain music thrives by keeping that Appalachian connection with their southern neighbours. Guitar flat picker Simon Davis and 5 string banjo/dobro player Tim Osmond sing a repertoire of music from the likes of the Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs and other traditional and contemporary bluegrass standards.

Jess Reimer & Jeremy Hamm:
There is no denying that an artist is a reflection of their environment, and the harsh beauty of rural Manitoba is at the heart of Jess Reimer’s work. Be it snowed-in, wool-wearing imagery or dirt under your nails, ‘sweating through the yellow silk’ summer feel, the extremes and heartiness of Manitoba are in Jess’ songs. Jeremy Hamm is a muti-instrumental musicians luthier and the sound that come out of the two of them together, showcase their many years of performing with one another and their unique experiences in the MB prairies both frozen and flourishing.

Double the Trouble:
Luc and Aidan Wrigley are 12 year old identical twin fiddlers. They are backed by their dad on guitar and perform traditional Metis Fiddle music along with some of their favorite contemporary songs by groups such as the Duhks, Bedouin Soundclash and Mumford and Sons, just to name a few.

Tickets are $15 in advance and are available now.
